After failing in its first attempt to secure an audience with the Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah, PKR will try its luck again for a second time.

This time however the party will deliver a letter, handwritten by its president, Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail.

The party’s earlier request for an audience was rejected by the palace as it did not follow proper procedure.

According to an internal source from PKR, the letter will be sent to the Selangor palace soon.

“Today, PKR will write again to the palace. The same letter but this time Dr Wan Azizah will sign it,” the source revealed.

Private secretary to Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah, Datuk Mohamad Munir Bani on Tuesday in a media statement said the palace had consented for Selangor Menteri Besar Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim to remain as the state’s chief.

He also confirmed that the palace had rejected a request from the party’s de facto leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim who requested an audience with the Sultan of Selangor with Dr Wan Azizah.

According to the decree, the Sultan did not want to get involved in PKR internal party matters.

The party source said the new letter is believed to take a more formal approach in its request for an audience with the Sultan.

“Maybe the rejection before this was because the letter was signed by Anwar and also that Abdul Khalid had already sought an audience with the Sultan,” the source said.

On Monday, the Sultan of Selangor had consented for Abdul Khalid to remain as the state’s Menteri Besar despite him being sacked from PKR.
