Good team spirit scored the winner for Selangor to clinch the Malaysia Cup.

The success of the Selangor team to bag the Malaysia Cup for the 33rd time after beating Kedah 2-0 last night has been attributed to team spirit, as was evident from the start of the match.

Selangor team captain, Muhd Shahrom Kalam said his team did a splendid job in scoring a meaningful victory yesterday, thus ending their 10-year drought to regain the Malaysia Cup.

"I am truly grateful for this win, this victory is for the team, we played like a family trying to revive Selangor football after the team's previous lacklustre performances," he told reporters after the final match at the Shah Alam Stadium last night.

Muhd Shahrom said the victory was a gift for the Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah who celebrated his 70th birthday yesterday.

"This win is also for our family members and all Selangor supporters who gave their unwavering support. We are delighted to regain the Malaysia Cup for the 33rd time before our own fans. Everyone in the team deserves this victory," he said.

Selangor import player, Andik Vermansah said with the win, the team had proven certain quarters who had described the Red Giants as lacking in quality, wrong.

"Firstly, Alhamdulillah, I managed to help the team win the Malaysia Cup in my first appearance.

"The game was challenging, playing in the wet field. I don't think I gave my best last night but the important thing is, I contributed to the win," said Andik of Indonesia.

Meanwhile, Nazmi Faiz Mansor said the strong commitment of the team members helped them achieve Selangor's 33rd win for the Malaysia Cup.

"Victory was on our side after the supporters had waited for 10 years. Thank God, we succeeded in our 33rd mission. I am especially, grateful to the coaches and family members," he said.
