ONTARIO Premier Doug Ford, known for often directing heated language at U.S. President Donald Trump said on Wednesday (August 26) he was intentionally shifting tone and focusing on helping Prime Minister Mark Carney restart tariff negotiations.
"So I'll fight him right to the end and I thought it would be best just to simmer down - it was a heated day for both him and I going back and forth, but it looks like he's simmered down too. So let's get back to the table," Ford said in response to a reporter's question about his shifted tone during an event in Vaughan, Ontario.
Ford was referring comments he made earlier in the week where twice told Trump he can "kiss my ass" among other heated statements.
Still, Ford stood by his earlier words, saying: "Those words resonated. And I usually don't use those words, but when your country is under attack and your province is under attack, and this guy is just nothing but a bully, it resonated around the world."
Trade talks between the U.S. and Canada collapsed last week with each side blaming the other for derailing three days of intensive negotiations.
