Angry Birds will roll out wordwide as a full-length movie in the summer of 2016. John Cohen of Despicable Me will produce the movie spin-off of the killer app, announced its creators from Finnish studio Rovio Entertainment.

John Cohen will team up with former Marvel Studios boss David Maisel to further Rovio's ambitions to build a multimedia empire around the short-tempered feathered creatures.

In the meantime, Angry Birds will get its own TV series spanning 52 episodes of two to three minutes each. Rovio broke the news at the latest edition of Cannes MIPTV in April.

Launched in 2009, the Angry Birds app quickly became one of the most successful ever. Rovio Entertainment claims that its game has been downloaded more than a billion times to date.
