SEREMBAN: A female Malayan tapir weighing about 450 kilogrammes was caught by a team from the Negeri Sembilan Wildlife and National Parks Department (Wildlife) after it entered a trap set up in Ladang Johol, Johol, Kuala Pilah, yesterday.

Negeri Sembilan Wildlife director Wan Mat Wan Harun said the trap was set up since Nov 24 last year following complaints from farmers of the animal seen roaming in the area.

"The tapir entered the trap at 8.30 am yesterday and after receiving information on it, a team of seven Wildlife personnel went to inspect the trap. The tapir is in healthy condition," he said when contacted by Bernama today.

He said the tapir would be examined by the department's veterinarian and then released in a Wildlife protected area in the state.
