Traffic flow on all major routes nationwide are running smoothly, thanks to 6,000 traffic policemen on duty to ensure all road users reach their respective destinations safely after celebrating Hari Raya Aidilfitri at their hometowns.

Bukit Aman Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department director, SAC Syahrul Othman Mansur said the traffic policemen were stationed at all locations identified as congestion-prone areas, including highways, federal and state roads as well as the roads under municipalities.

"During 'Ops Selamat 11/2017', we are also working with state governments and local municipalities to identify areas prone to traffic congestion and open diversion routes to ensure smooth flow," he told reporters after checking traffic flow at the Kem Semor roadblock here today.

He said tomorrow would be the peak period when city dwellers returned to work, thereby increasing traffic volume.

He said four zones were created to ensure smooth traffic flow across the country, namely the northern zone in Sungai Petani, Kedah; central zone in Bidor, Perak; southern zone in Muar, Johor; and, the eastern zone in Gua Musang and to collect information on traffic movement.
