KUALA LUMPUR: ASTRO Awani editor-in-chief Ashwad Ismail has been elected as Ikatan Setiakawan Wartawan Malaysia Indonesia (ISWAMI) president for the 2023-2025 term.

He replaced Datuk Mokhtar Hussain after the committee elections were held during the organisation's 2023-2025 general meeting here today.

New Straits Times Press (M) Bhd group managing editor Datuk Ahmad Zaini Kamaruzzaman, meanwhile, was elected deputy president.

Media Prima Berhad Head of News and Current Affairs Kamarudin Mape was elected ISWAMI vice-president while BERNAMA TV and Radio Broadcasting Service Chief Mohd Shukri Ishak retained his position as the organisation's secretary-general.

Thanking all members, Ashwad hopes ISWAMI can bring about significant change to impact the country and enhance bilateral relations between Malaysia and Indonesia.

"We will strengthen the role of ISWAMI and take ISWAMI to higher and international levels," he said.
