The Malaysian Small and Medium Entrepreneurs Association (Ikhlas) has sent a memorandum to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak urging him to delay the demolition of Ampang Park.

Ikhlas president Mohd Ridzuan Abdullah said this is necessary because the demolition of the popular shopping mall could become a political issue in the general election.

"I sincerely plea with the prime minister to delay the demolition of Ampang Park until after the 14th general election (GE14)," said the memorandum .

Mohd Ridzuan, who was accompanied by some 200 tenants in Ampang Park, sent the memorandum to the Special Officer to the Prime Minister, Nik Mohamed Hussain Nik Mohammed Ali at Bangunan Perdana Putra, here yesterday.

Ampang Park was built in 1972 and opened to the public on March 15, 1973, making it the first shopping mall in Malaysia. - BERNAMA
