KUALA LUMPUR:An Independent Special Committee will be established to ensure the implementation of the emergency is fair and transparent.

The Prime Minister, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said, the committee also has the role of advising His Majesty the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah.

He said the committee would be comprised of Government and Opposition MPs as well as health and related experts.

"To ensure that the implementation of the emergency period is done fairly and transparently, an Independent Special Committee will be established under an Ordinance to advise His Majesty whether a major emergency still occurs in the Federation to continue the period of Emergency Proclamation or terminate the Proclamation earlier than the appointed date. "he said.

He said this while delivering the Prime Minister's Special Emergency Announcement here on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, Muhyiddin said, during this emergency period as well, the Federal executive will cover any matter within the jurisdiction of the state legislature.

"Except for any matter of Islamic law or Malay customary or on any matter of law or custom in Sabah or Sarawak, religion, nationality and language, in accordance with Article 6A of Article 150 of the Federal Constitution.

"Besides that, Parliament and the State Legislative Assembly will not sit until a time set by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong," he added.
