KOTA KINABALU: The Malaysian United Democratic Alliance (MUDA) has named its vice-president Shahrizal Denci as the candidate for the Kota Marudu parliamentary seat in the 15th General Election (GE15).

The party's election director, Amira Aisya Abd Aziz, when announcing it, said Shahrizal's nomination as the candidate for the seat was in line with MUDA's efforts to have elected representatives who are close with the people and understand their issues.

Shahrizal, 40, who is from the Ranau district, is a modern farmer and holds a Bachelor's Degree in Computer Engineering from Universiti Malaysia Perlis.

"MUDA will not settle for easy urban seats, but as a new party with young people, MUDA is determined to go for seats that are said to be difficult, seats in the rural areas," he told a press conference here.

The incumbent Kota Marudu Member of Parliament is Parti Bersatu Sabah president Datuk Seri Dr Maximus Ongkili, who is also Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Sabah and Sarawak Affairs).
