PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang expressed condolences to the family of PAS Spiritual Leader Datuk Dr Haron Din who died today.

Abdul Hadi said Haron was among the early generations of Islamic graduates who joined the PAS Islamic struggle from the time the party was established.

"We hope God will accept all his contributions to Islam and pardon his shortcomings.

"May God show His mercy and place his soul among the righteous," he said after delivering the weekly Friday morning lecture at the Rusila Mosque here.

Haron died at 10.10am today (Malaysian time) at Stanford University Hospital in San Francisco where he was undergoing treatment for a heart ailment. He was 76.

In KOTA BHARU, PAS Deputy Spiritual Leader Datuk Ahmad Yakob expressed condolences to the family of Haron.

He said Haron's passing was received with sadness by party members and supporters.

Ahmad, who is Kelantan menteri besar, said Haron had been an eminent ulama who was a source of reference on various fields of knowledge.

"His involvement in PAS had strengthened the party," he said in a statement. -- BERNAMA
