Datuk Jamal Md Yunos today urged the Sabak Bernam District Council and the Sabak Bernam Land and District Office to seal and demolish all business premises operating without valid licence, as well as those built illegally on the state government-owned land.

Jamal, who is the owner of Sekin Fisherman Village Hotel & Resort, said such an action should be taken as too many business premises, including gambling dens, had been built and operated in the district, with total disregard of the laws and bylaws.

"Go seal and demolish all the illegal business premises built on government reserve land, don't just demolish my resort...that is not fair.

"I was made to understand that there are nine gambling dens and 40 massage and karaoke centres operating in this district...the residents are complaining, but it seems to be falling on deaf ears."

He said this to reporters after meeting with Sabak Bernam District Officer Mohd Khairuddin Md Som and MDSB secretary Awaluddin Zakaria to seek explanation on his resort, which was sealed and partially demolished by the two agencies on Dec 22.

It is reported that the MDSB had sealed the Sekin Fisherman Village Hotel & Resort, according to Bylaw 38 of the MDSB Hotel Bylaws 2013 for operating a hotel without a valid licence.

Elaborating on the meeting, Jamal, who is also Sungai Besar UMNO chief, said he accepted the explanation given on the action taken by the MDSB, but still questioned why it was done a day after he staged a protest of water woes at the Selangor Menteri Besar's Office.

"It is not a coincidence, why didn't they take the action a month ago or a year ago? Or why not a day before the protest?" he chided. - BERNAMA
