KUALA LUMPUR: The Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah today performed Friday prayers at the Surau Utama, Istana Negara.

His Majesty's arrival at 1.30 pm was greeted by 500 congregants, including members of the public.

Upon arrival, Al-Sultan Abdullah then joined the congregation to listen to the sermon, titled 'Dirgahayu Tuanku Jasa Tuanku Tersemat di Kalbu' delivered by the Istana Negara religious officer, Datuk Munir Md Salleh.

The sermon touched on the Institution of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, as well as His Majesty's dedication and contributions to the people and the country throughout his five-year reign.

"During his reign, His Majesty has gone through various events and storms, including the political turmoil which hit the country," said Munir.

He said that Malaysians should be grateful, as His Majesty was blessed with the guidance, strength and benevolence by Allah Almighty to carry out the great task of protecting Malaysia.

He added that Al-Sultan Abdullah, during his five-year reign, ruled with warmth and genuine concern, which certainly touched the souls and hearts of his subjects in all corners of the country.

Munir said that the people should also understand the institution of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong was also a landmark that protected the Federal Constitution and the people.

Ending the sermon, he said that a head of state who is just, merciful and benevolent is a blessing and a great gift from Allah Almighty to the ummah and the country.

After the prayers, His Majesty shook hands and mingled with several members of the congregation.
