KUALA LUMPUR: The Ministry of Education (MOE) has announced a 25 per cent allowance rate increment for its boarding school wardens, which has not been reviewed for the past 25 years.

Education Minister Datuk Dr Mohd Radzi Md Jidin said effective Aug 1, the allowance rate for chief wardens and wardens would be increased to RM350 and RM300 per month respectively.

"For your information, the last time the hostel warden's allowance rate was reviewed was in 1997," he said in a video posted on his official Facebook page today.

In addition, he said, a total of 3,813 new wardens will be appointed in 1,874 boarding schools under MOE in an effort to strengthen their portfolios, adding that the 63 per cent increase (from 6,055 wardens to 9,868) would allow the implementation of warden duties rotation.

These improvements involve a financial implication amounting to nearly RM19 million, he added.
