KUALA LUMPUR:The Ministry of Health (MOH) will send 11 more medical specialists to serve in Sabah hospitals in the near future, says Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.

He said they comprised three clinical experts and eight specialists in other fields.

"The MOH will look at specific areas before moving staff to places that require assistance," he said during his virtual press conference broadcast on MOH's Facebook page today.

Noor Hisham also called on more qualified medical and health volunteers to come forward to assist MOH in addressing the third wave of COVID-19.

He said the process would be coordinated by the National Crisis Preparedness and Response Center (CPRC) and those interested may email to: [email protected] or [email protected].

"So far, we (the ministry) have identified eight hospitals to treat COVID-19 patients who are at the critical level, namely levels three, four and five.

"We (the ministry) also have 16 low-risk treatment quarantine centres to house positive cases that have no symptoms for level one and mild symptoms for level two," he said.

Apart from that, Dr Noor Hisham said the MOH also given approval to Sabah state health centres to acquire stocks of Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) to meet urgent needs.
