A Red Shirt movement rally held in front of news portal Malaysiakini office building here today, lasted for about two hours, without any untoward incident.

Petaling Jaya police chief, ACP Mohd Zani Che Din said more than 1,000 Red Shirt participants gathered in front of the building, beginning 2pm.

"We stationed 600 personnel to maintain public order and ensure safety," he told reporters here.

He said the police would investigate whether the Red Shirt members complied with several conditions under the Peaceful Assembly Act 2012.

Meanwhile, Malaysian Non-Governmental Organisation Coalition chairman Datuk Jamal Md Yunos said the rally participants did not enter the Malaysiakini building premises in compliance with the law.

"We wanted to meet the management (of Malaysiakini) but the police disallowed it. So, we relented because we respect the decision of the police," he said.

Also taking part in the gathering were UMNO Youth Exco Datuk Armand Azha Abu Hanifah and Malaysian Malay Network president Datuk Azwanddin Hamzah. -- BERNAMA
