The organisers of the 'Himpunan Rakyat Bersatu' or Red Shirt rally here on Sept 16 have agreed to pay the post-rally clean-up cost of RM50,000.

Federation of National Silat Associations (Pesaka) president Tan Sri Mohd Ali Rustam told Bernama the organisers were aware that they had to foot the bill.

Kuala Lumpur mayor Datuk Mhd Amin Nordin Abd Aziz said the RM50,000 bill was the sum of the clean-up cost of RM38,000 imposed by waste management corporation Alam Flora and RM12,000 by Kuala Lumpur City Hall.

He said the bill was expected to be sent to the rally organisers in a week.

Malay NGO Coalition leader Datuk Jamal Md Yunos said the organisers would not run away from their responsibility to pay the cost of cleaning up after the rally.

The Red Shirt rally was held at Padang Merbok on Sept 16, and was held to reciprocate the Bersih 4 rally held in the vicinity of Dataran Merdeka on Aug 29 and 30.

Early this month, City Hall sent a clean-up bill amounting to RM65,000 to the Bersih 4 organisers. It is scheduled to send a staffing and damage costs bill of RM61,840 at the end of this month.
