PAS assemblymen Saari Sungib and Hasnul Baharuddin’s membership in the party had been suspended immediately for a year, announced party secretary-general Datuk Mustafa Ali.

However, they can appeal to the powerful Syura Council within 15 days.

The two broke party instructions when they threw support behind Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) president Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail as the Selangor Menteri Besar candidate.

Mustafa said the decision was made based on the party’s constitution Article 82 (6).

“The central committee has decided that the two have been suspended from the party for one year.

"However, according to the party's constitution Article 83(4)(5), they can write an appeal to the Syura Council within 15 days, starting today,” he said at a press conference as the PAS headquarters, today.

Mustafa also explained that both assemblymen could not represent the party in any events during the suspension period.

“The two are still PAS members as they are not fired,” Mustafa said when asked about their status as assemblyman.

Last August, Saari and Hasnul was among the 30 Pakatan state lawmakers pledged their support behind Wan Azizah as the new Menteri Besar of Selangor.

However, it was seen by the party as a personal move and had ignored the party directives.
