The Ministry of Youth and Sports today signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Sportspin Event & Athlete Management, a company owned by national squash player Mohd Azlan Iskandar, to unearth potential players through the Azlan Iskandar Squash Academy (AISA) and Malaysian Tour Squash Circuit.

Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Shabery Cheek said the cooperation would encompass all aspects, including support services, matters involving ministries, financial assistance, facilities and advise.

"The result we see a continuous flow of potential squash players because squash is a sport that we are already at the top level. Nicol David is a synonymous name in the sport but many have raised the question as to who will be her replacement?

"The role played by the squash association is good but with support from Mohd Azlan, it will enhance the sport's development," he told reporters after witnessing the MoU signing here on Wednesday.

AISA, set up by Mohd Azlan in Jan 2011 has about 500 participants and coached by prominent coaches as well as ex-internationals.

There are five AISA centres throughout the country, namely in Kemaman, Terengganu, Kuching, Miri, Bau in Sarawak and Seremban 2 in Negeri Sembilan while five more are in the pipeline.

Similar centres will be opened in Johor, Kelantan, Pahang, Melaka and Terengganu.
