National badminton champion, Datuk Lee Chong Wei came back from a set down to storm into the 2013 World Badminton Championship final when he defeated Du Pengyu of China in the semi-final yesterday night.

The world number one singles player will meet his arch rival, Lin Dan who is the defending champion at the Tianhe Gymnasium here today.

Lin Dan of China earlier demolished seventh-seed Nguyen Tien Minh of Vietnam in straight sets of 21-17, 21-15 in the other semi-final.

Today's final is the best opportunity for Chong Wei to redeem his losses to Lin Dan at the 2011 World Championship and 2012 Olympic Games, both in London.

In the semi-final, Chong Wei, who was seeded number one in the championship, failed to show his best in the first set with many unforced errors and lost 20-22 to Pengyu.

But he bounced back aggressively in the second and third sets to seal his final berth beating the third-seeded player 21-12 and 21-15.

"I will give my best in the encounter with Lin Dan to clinch the world championship title," said the 31-year-old national player.

"Every player wants to be a champion. Win or lose, I will continue to give my best as I did today," said Chong Wei.

The championship finals in five categories will start at 1pm today.
