Youth Solidarity Malaysia (SAMM) founder Badrul Hisham Shaharin today lodged a report with the Malaysian Communication and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) on the dissemination of a fake statutory declaration by several Facebook accounts supporting the Mahathir Declaration.

Badrul Hisham, better known as Chegubard, said the statutory declaration in the name of independent computer programmer Azharuddin Othman, who claimed he was hired by Chegubard over the sale of the national population database with the aim of falsifying signatures for the Mahathir Declaration, was a fake.

"As soon as I realised the existence of the fake declaration, I immediately contacted Azharuddin and he said it was a fake and issued a denial in his Facebook account less than an hour later.

"So, today I lodged a report so that MCMC can investigate the individual behind the Facebook accounts in question and take appropriate action," he told reporters before lodging the report at the MCMC Building, here.

On May 26, Azharuddin came out with a declaration admitting he was involved in the sale of the national population database to obtain 1.2 million signatures for a declaration initiated by former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

Subsequently, on June 8, another statutory declaration in Azharuddin's name was disseminated over social media claiming that he was hired to read the text of the first statutory declaration by Chegubard.

However, two days later, Azharuddin along with Chegubard clarified at a media conference that the second statutory declaration was a fake.
