Thailand's constitutional court has deferred a ruling on possibility to postpone the country’s general election scheduled for 2 February.

Reuters reported, court spokesman Pimol Thampithakpong said that the constitutional court has accepted the case and will look at the legal issues involved and may hand down a decision tomorrow.

The government in its effort to proceed with the election says the decree to hold the election on 2nd February has been signed by the king and cannot be changed.

Thailand on Tuesday declared a 60-day state of emergency in Bangkok and surrounding areas to tackle mass street protests aimed at overthrowing the government.

The move follows weeks of rallies that have paralysed parts of the capital and sparked several bouts of deadly violence, including grenade attacks and shootings.

Defiant Thai opposition protesters however vowed to ignore a state of emergency that came into force, refusing to abandon their fight to bring down the government.
