Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak today called on all quarters not to politicise the East Coast Rail Line (ECRL) project which they have likened to selling out the country's sovereignty.

The prime minister said the project instead, would provide convenience to the people, especially those in the East Coast of the peninsula.

"It's difficult for me to comprehend that a project which will benefit the country, especially the East Coast states, and which can be a game-changer, can change people's lifestyle to a more modern one, more progressive...there are people who try to deny others of this effort, purportedly we are selling out our country's sovereignty."

Najib said this in his speech when opening the first Public Inspection session for the ECRL project at the Land Public Transport Commission (SPAD) headquarters, here, today.

He envisaged that when completed, the ECRL would save a lot of time for people who want to return to their hometown, especially for the festive celebrations.
