KUALA LUMPUR: Former Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) director-general Admiral Maritime (Rtd) Datuk Seri Ahmad Puzi Ab Kahar has been conferred the Order of the Rising Sun, Gold and Silver Star award by the Emperor of Japan.

The award was in recognition of Ahmad Puzi's contribution and efforts in strengthening ties between Japan and Malaysia during his tenure as MMEA director-general from 2015 to 2017.

The award was presented by Japanese Ambassador to Malaysia Takahashi Katsuhiko at a ceremony held at his official residence, here last night, according to a statement issued by the MMEA.

Also present were MMEA director-general Admiral Datuk Mohd Zubil Mat Som, former Chief of Defence Force Gen (Rtd) Tan Sri Raja Mohamed Affandi Raja Mohamed and former MMEA director-general Datuk Mohamad Nik.

The statement said the award conferred on the third MMEA director-general was Japan's highest honour given to leaders or individuals for their contributions to the region.
