Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar on Monday advised the public against making any assumption that Sunday's shooting of the Pahang Islamic Religious Department (Jaip) enforcement chief was linked to the Shiite movement.

He said there was no clear evidence to show that it was related to the Shiite movement and that the public should leave the matter to the police to investigate.

"We are also hoping for public cooperation to help up trace the culprits," he told a media conference after giving a lecture entitled 'Futuristic Policing: Direction of Polis Diraja Malaysia in the Context of Vision 2020'.

Khalid said police were working with the Islamic Religious Departments in all states to monitor the Shiite movement.

In the 2pm incident Sunday, Jaip enforcement chief Mohd Raffli Abdul Malik was shot dead in front of his house in Indera Mahkota 2, Kuantan.

According to the police, he was shot thrice and died instantly.

Three suspects were believed to be involved in the shooting and they made their getaway in a white Proton Wira Aeroback car.
