The government does not intend to extradite controversial blogger Alvin Tan and political activist Ali Abdul Jalil to Malaysia to face legal action, says Home Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

"So far, we have no plans to extradite them although we have an extradition agreement with the countries concerned," he told reporters after meeting United States (US) Assistant Secretary for International Affairs, Department of Homeland Security, Alan Bersin at his office here Tuesday.

He was however, confident that Tan and Ali, currently abroad seeking political asylum would eventually return to Malaysia.

Asked whether the government would revoke the citizenship of Tan and Ali, the minister replied that the Malaysian Government was not that cruel.

"They were born here. Having their passports revoked is already a torture," he said.
