The December 31 rally is just to divert the people's attention from the lies spread by the opposition after failing to capture Putrajaya in the May 5 general election.

Communications and Multimedia Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Shabery Cheek did not dismiss possibility that the organisers were the same people behind the 'Black 505' and 'Bersih' rallies.

"The people won't be fooled again. They are doing it to satisfy their lust for power and are trying to erase their sins to the people by finding other issues such as the hike in the price of goods," he told reporters after presenting Azam Tani chicken breeding project dividends, here, Tuesday.

He added the opposition were spreading lies to make the people angry with the government.

He said rather than urging the people to attend the rally, they should instead urge the people to do beneficial things such as helping flood victims.

Ahmad Shabery said the opposition deceived the people that about 40,000 Bangladeshis voted in the general election and thousands of people believed them and attended rallies.

"Many people felt cheated by the oppposition who said they did not recognise the result of the general election but were not only sworn into office but failed to provide proof."
