KUCHING:Sarawak recorded two more COVID-19 deaths today bringing the total number of fatalities due to the virus in the state to 26 cases.

The Sarawak State Disaster Management Committee in a statement said the 25th death was the 2,947th case, involving a 35-year-old local woman who was admitted to Sibu Hospital on Jan 22 due to breathing difficulty.

"She was confirmed dead on Jan 23 at Sibu Hospital. She tested positive for COVID-19 after screening tests were conducted on Jan 16 and Jan 22," according to the statement.

For the 26th death, the victim who is the 1,892nd case is a 74-year-old local man who was admitted to Sibu Hospital on Jan 14 because the COVID-19 screening he did on Jan 13 was found to be positive.

"From Jan 18, his health condition began to decline and the man needed respiratory assistance. He was confirmed dead on Jan 23 at Sibu Hospital," according to the State Disaster Management Committee.

Meanwhile, today there are 193 positive COVID-19 cases detected in Sarawak, namely in Sibu 138 cases, Miri (12), Bintulu (10), Kuching (9), Dalat (9), Kapit (5) , Sebauh (4), Kanowit (2), Selangau (2), Bau (1) and Limbang (1) respectively bringing the total number of positive COVID-19 cases in the state to 3,124 cases.
