After numerous postponements, the Selangor water industry restructuring deal will be inked today.

The agreement will be signed by Menteri Besar Mohamed Azmin Ali and Energy, Green Technology and Water Minister Datuk Dr Maximus Ongkili for the Federal Government at 3pm in Putrajaya.

The agreement was supposed to be finalised in February this year but had been delayed until now.

Azmin before this had reportedly met with the Federal Government to discuss several issued pertaining to claims for acquisition of state assets.

Last month, Syarikat Bekalan Air Selangor (Syabas) had warned that issues relating to the water industry restructuring needed to be solved immediately to avoid supply disruption as reserves in the Klang Valley were below five percent.

Syabas executive chairman Tan Sri Rozali Ismail had said that the Langat 2 project, the main water source for Selangor and Kuala Lumpur, was truly needed right now to fulfill the needs of the residents and industries in the Klang Valley until 2025.
