The skeletal remains of a murder victim was found at Pantai Tinagat here, Thursday.

District police chief ACP Fadil Marsus said the remains were discovered around 1.30pm by some residents who were visiting a nearby cemetery in conjunction with Aidilfitri.

"The remains were covered with flies and the head was blacken as if burned, while there was a red nylon string attached to the victim's leg.

"From the state of the remains, we cannot tell the gender of the victim. No documents were found on the remains or nearby," he said in a statement here yesterday.

Fadil said a partly burnt tyre believed to have been used to torch the victim was also found in the vicinity.

"The case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code," he said, adding, tha remains had been sent to Tawau Hospital for post mortem that would be conducted by a pathologist from Queen Elizabeth Hospital on July 12.
