KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia Tourism Promotion Board (Tourism Malaysia) senior director of (Management) Datuk Zainuddin Abdul Wahab has been appointed the new director-general of the agency effective Monday (Sept 13).

Tourism Malaysia, in a statement today said Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri has agreed with Zainuddin's appointment, replacing Zulkifly Md Said who retired on Sept 13.

"With the appointment, he will continue to assist in the recovery efforts of industries affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, thus driving changes towards the digitalisation of tourism and realisation of the National Tourism Policy 2020-2030," read the statement.

Zainuddin, who previously held the position of deputy director-general (Planning), has served for 37 years in the civil service.

Prior to that, he served as Islamic Tourism Centre director-general before being appointed Tourism Malaysia Production Division director and Strategic Planning Division senior director.
