Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) chairman Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg has described the actions of Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim as something strange.

It was after Anwar announced that his party now has a strong majority to form a new government.

Abang Johari, who is also the Chief Minister of Sarawak, stressed that GPS will continue to provide support to the administration of the Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.

“Previously during the Malaysia Day 2020 celebration in Sibu, I have stated that GPS will continue to provide support to Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.

"I do not know why he (Anwar) made the announcement today and we all know Sabah will face the State Election in the near future. For me, he is strange," he said when met in Serian on Wednesday.

He added that what is more important is the question of national interest and the country's economy needs to be stabilized while the world is still at war with the COVID-19 epidemic.

Meanwhile, Abang Johari also denied that GPS was dissatisfied with the Perikatan Nasional (PN) following the issue of State Sales Tax (SST) negotiations involving Sarawak and Petroliam Nasional Berhad (PETRONAS) and the Malaysia Agreement (MA63).

In fact, the state government under his leadership was satisfied with the payment made by Petronas and it is in line with the amount of five per cent as prescribed.

"We are happy with the payment made by Petronas and it is the amount in line with the assessment made by the SST comptroller and Petronas has already agreed," he added during a press conference after the Leaders with the People Program at the SJK Chung Hua Hall in Serian.
