The Federal Agricultural Marketing Authority (FAMA) will open fresh products sales centres at 77 locations nationwide.

Senior Minister (Security Cluster) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said the initiative was taken to reduce congestion in the existing wet markets.

He said because the people did not have much choice during the Movement Control Order (MCO) period, they had formed large crowds in the wet markets, making it difficult for the authorities to control them.

"Among the sales centres to be opened are at selected farmers markets, permanent farmers markets, FAMA operations centres, MyFAMA outlets and Farmers Complex," he said at a press conference here on Tuesday.

He added security forces would control the entrance and exit of the sales centres with the standard operating procedures (SOP) on social distancing to be tightened.

Meanwhile, Ismail Sabri said police arrested 742 people at roadblocks and during patrols on Monday.

He said 1,547 roadblocks were conducted with 383,488 vehicles inspected.

He also said all highway concessionaires had agreed to grant rent exemption to tenants of shops in the R&R areas for six months.
