Companies which have yet to register for the Goods and Services (GST) Tax are adopting a wait-and-see attitude, says Deputy Finance Minister Datuk Ahmad Maslan.

He said the companies were not boycotting or sabotaging the implementation of the GST.

"Earlier, we thought there was a possibility that some companies may refuse or boycott the GST, but I will like to announce that 117,376 companies have registered for the new tax structure as of yesterday," he told reporters after a briefing on the GST and the 2015 Budget, Saturday.

He added that the ministry was confident the number of GST-registered companies will increase in November and December.

"About 74,000 companies have registered for the Sales and Service Tax but more than 117,000 companies have registered for the GST, as they can claim for the six per cent input tax via the GST.
