The spirit of Aidilfitri should serve as a platform to appreciate and respect the diversity existing in the country, by holding 'open house' and welcoming guests from different religions, races and cultures.

The Sultan of Perak, Sultan Nazrin Shah said the Aidilfitri celebrations should also prove the nature of the Muslim brotherhood and its humaneness.

"Radiate brotherhood and humaneness with the dawn of Aidilfitri.

"Celebrate Aidilfitri by appreciating the manifestation of divine grace and being guided by the Sunnah of the Prophet. Visit relatives and friends, in addition to receiving guests in the spirit of brotherhood and fraternity," he said in his Aidilfitri message here Saturday.

Sultan Nazri also said that in the joy of celebrating Aidilfitri, it must be remembered that there were nearly 60 million Muslims living in refugee centres worldwide.

"Be aware that around us, there are still people living in poverty, share the wealth bestowed by God's blessings by increasing the practice of giving alms," he said.

The sultan also urged Muslims to appreciate the sacrifices and services provided by various parties allowing Aidilfitri to be celebrated in a peaceful and cheerful atmosphere.

"May the sacrifices of policemen, soldiers, firefighters, and prisons, immigration, customs and hospital staff, including those of the transport and service sector workers as well as the media, radio and television staff be accepted and blessed," he said.
