Claims of two attempted kidnappings involving school students in Batu Berendam and Ayer Keroh here that recently went viral on social media did not exist, said Melaka Crime Investigation head ACP Kamaluddin Kassim.

He said Melaka police had received a report on the attempted kidnappings but further investigations and interrogations on the complainant and victims revealed the incidents did not exist.

"There is no foul play. In one of the cases concerned, police found that the children allegedly kidnapped felt intimidated by a grass cutter, who was wearing a mask," he told reporters here today.

He said this when asked to comment on the dissemination of news and police reports via Facebook and WhatsApp over the two school students' attempted kidnapping here.

He advised the public not to spread any incidents on crime before police investigation was completed in order to maintain public order.
