The closure of Pulau Sembilan in Bagan Datuk from all tourism activities to protect the ecosystem in the area is apt, said Tourism and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Nazri Abdul Aziz.

He said the ministry supported the decision by the state government as it was made to protect the natural beauty of the island.

We have to ascertain the natural environment is well-protected and preserved, he told reporters when met at the Sultan Azlan Shah Mara Junior Science College (MRSM) here today.

Last Sunday, Perak Tourism, Arts and Culture Committee chairman Datuk Nolee Ashilin Mohammed Radzi said that Pulau Sembilan would be closed to all tourism activities, effective April 1.

The decision was made after the state government found the natural settings and environment of Pulau Sembilan having been encroached by visitors.
