KUALA LUMPUR:The government has announced two locations of Enhanced Movement Control Order (EMCO) in Penang and Sabah.

EMCO in Seberang Perai Prison and Housing Quarters will start from October 22 to November 4, 2020.

Meanwhile, EMCO at the Taman Harmoni Sandakan People's Housing Project (PPR) will be implemented from October 23 to November 5, 2020.

Senior Minister (Defence Cluster), Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said the implementation of EMCO in Seberang Perai Prison Housing and Housing Quarters allows the movement in and out of the area to be controlled and facilitate the implementation of COVID-19 screening test.

"It involves a total of 3,262 people including prisoners (2,110 people), prison staff and families living in quarters (1,000 people), prison staff who do not live in quarters (120 people) and civil servants (32 people).

"Detainees who will be released during the EMCO period will be segregated and quarantined at a place decided by the Penang State Disaster Management Committee at the Mara Institute of Excellence Training (MEC), Seberang Perai Selatan District until the quarantine period expires," he told a press conference on Wednesday.

EMCO at the Taman Harmoni Sandakan People's Housing Project (PPR) involves 870 housing units with a total of 4,481 residents.

"With the implementation of this order, all residents are required to comply with the SOP set, among them, all residents in the affected areas are not allowed to leave their homes.

"For emergency cases such as illness and death, they are allowed to leave but need to submit an application to the PDRM," he said.

He added that the MOH will conduct targeted screening of all residents involved.

"Food supplies will be distributed by the state Government which will be coordinated by the State Disaster Operations Control Centre.

"To ensure compliance with this order, the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM), Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM), Malaysian Civil Defence Force (APM), Malaysian Volunteer Department (RELA), Local Authorities and authorized officers, will control all areas involved.
