ALOR GAJAH: The local authorities (PBT) in Melaka have been instructed to immediately carry out maintenance work on the drainage system to reduce the risk of flash floods, said Chief Minister Datuk Seri Sulaiman Md Ali.

He said preparedness to face possible floods is important as the 15th General Election will be held in the monsoon season.

Therefore, he said, four PBT, namely the Melaka Historic City Council; Jasin Municipal Council; Hang Tuah Jaya Municipal Council and Alor Gajah Municipal Council have been instructed to redouble their efforts.

"We also ask that councillors monitor the zones that have been entrusted to them.

"This is important for PBT to get the latest information and identify the maintenance that needs to be carried out," he said at a press conference after officiating the new MPAG office in Bandar Alor Gajah here today.

He also expressed confidence that the new MPAG office building will be able to attract more investors to the district.

He added that the district's iconic building, costing RM28.5 million, was fully completed in April 2021 and houses 342 council employees.

"PBT needs to have complete facilities in carrying out its duties, in addition to being able to convince investors and potential investors about its image and governance," he said.
