Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak said the 20 per cent price cut in 1Malaysia People's Housing Programme (PR1MA), is an initiative to help the people in Sarawak to own their dream home.

He also said the initiative is a move by the government to increase the people's wealth.

“Although we see this as a home-selling programme but in reality, (as a government) we want to do something to increase the people’s wealth. If there is no PR1MA, we may not afford to own our dream house,” he said.

Najib said this after launching the PR1MA HOMES @Sarawak EXPO at the old State Legislative Assembly building, here today.

Also present were Chief Minister Tan Sri Adenan Satem, Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Datuk Seri Shahidan Kassim, Deputy Chief Minister Tan Sri Alfred Jabu, state housing minister Datuk Amar Abang Johari Tun Openg and PR1MA chief executive officer Datuk Abdul Mutalib Alias.

Najib also assured that the government would continue to provide affordable and quality homes to the people.

"While it is a difficult challenge to come up with the right deal, we have (nevertheless) managed to a certain extent, to achieve this through PR1MA where its price is 20 per cent lower than the market price, and this certainly, benefits the people," he said.

He added that the PR1MA and the state housing development corporation were working hand-in-hand to build more than 9,000 units of different types of homes.
