UMNO vice-president Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal not only managed to retain his Semporna UMNO division chairman post, he did so by winning a big majority in the three-cornered contest during the party elections last Saturday.

According to a statement issued by Semporna UMNO, Shafie who is also Semporna MP, garnered 1,309 votes, defeating his two challengers, former Sulabayan assemblyman Datuk Harman Mohamad (187 votes) and former Semporna division Youth head Nixon Abdul Habi (48).

For the post of deputy chairman, incumbent Datuk Seri Nasir Tun Sakaran retained the post after obtaining 855 votes against the 662 votes received by his challenger, former division vice-chairman, Datuk Ramlee Marahaban.

Sulabayan assemblyman, Datuk Jaujan Sambakong meanwhile won the vice-chairman post by obtaining 1,034 votes compared to 453 received by his challenger, Datuk Basali Tarireh.

The results were announced by the division's permanent chairman, Datu Eranza Datu Seribu.
