KUALA LUMPUR: Six Malaysians comprising sports media practitioners and partners will embark on a nearly 22,000-kilometre motorcycle expedition from London to Kuala Lumpur in a mission dubbed Ekspedisi Perpaduan Watikah Kemerdekaan 66 London-Kuala Lumpur 2023 (EPWK66-2023) later this month.

Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said the expedition hosted to enliven this year's Independence Month celebration will take 66 days crossing 66 cities in 16 countries.

"The expedition is to commemorate the historic journey made by Tunku Abdul Rahman Putra Al-Haj ibni Almarhum Sultan Abdul Hamid Halim Shah in bringing home the Malayan Declaration of Independence from London to Kuala Lumpur in 1957.

"I pray that the EPWK66-2023 expedition will succeed in creating history and keep the Malaysian flag flying high in the sky," he said in a post on Facebook today.

Ahmad Zahid said the convoy is expected to arrive in Kuala Lumpur on the morning of Aug 31 and will participate in the 66th National Day parade.

Earlier, Ahmad Zahid launched the expedition at the Parliament compound.
