Entertainment shows in conjunction with the 57th Merdeka Day celebrations will be coordinated according to appropriateness and guidelines following the Malaysia Airlines (MAS) flight MH17 tragedy, said Communications and Multimedia Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Shabery Cheek.

He said his ministry would issue guidelines such as the type of shows and songs to be played.

"For example, in the Konsert Chow Kit Road 2.0, the songs to be played would reflect the love for the nation," he told reporters after the handing over of promotional materials for the 57th Merdeka Day celebration, here on Friday.

Ahmad Shabery said the ministry would also issue the 'playlist' for suitable songs to be played by government and private radio and television stations.

The 'Konsert Harmoni Uniti' that would merge artistes from Malaysia and Indonesia, however, had been cancelled while several events for the celebration had been postponed to a more suitable date, he said.

Ahmad Shabery said the ministry's proposals for the Merdeka celebration programmes would be tabled at the cabinet meeting beforehand because not all events could be cancelled.

In another development, he thanked the contributors and sponsors from the private sector and non-governmenal organisations for the efforts to spread the merdeka spirit.

The minister said that besides contributing by distributing the Jalur Gemilang, the private sector and NGOs were encouraged to make T-shirts to be worn by various strata of society to promote the merdeka spirit.
