Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism Minister, Datuk Seri Hasan Malek said the issue relating to Goods and Services Tax (GST) imposed on pre-paid reload cards by telecommunication companies (telcos) will be brought to the attention of the Customs Department.

He said the matter should be investigated and resolved to avoid any confusion among consumers utilising the service.

He said the GST should not be applied to reload cards as pre-paid cards had already been taxed.

"I will bring up this issue to the Customs Department because I noticed that the Telcos headquarters have issued a directive to impose GST on the cards," he told reporters after visiting a telecommunications kiosk at a shopping centre here, Wednesday.

Hasan also urged the people to be smart consumers in making the right choices and comparing prices before purchasing, while traders were advised to conduct ethical business and not raise prices indiscriminately.

"I do not want traders to feel pressured because we want to create a win-win situation between traders and consumers so that both parties will benefit from the implementation of the GST," he said.
