As the demand for sports getting higher by the day, it is seen that the viewers will need to pay more for it.

The Sun columnist, R. Nadeswaran said during an interview on Astro AWANI’s talk show, Agenda AWANI, that sports is no longer considered as the ‘people’s sports’ but it is now commercialized.

Astro's head of sports C.K. Lee agreed on the same sentiment where demands created by the fans is the reason the rights to broadcast sports matches is getting higher and thus, the reason for the fans to pay more.

Adding to that, he said, to satisfy the demand, Astro has been buying 380 matches per season.

Meanwhile, fans’ expectation for better sports matches is also among the reason why the rights to broadcast sports matches are rising.

“Viewers expect more, they expect better matches and in today’s world where everything is accessible through mobile phone and internet, they want that as well. To be able to watch sports anywhere and at anytime,” said Fox International Channels Middle East General Manager, Rohit D'silva.
