IPOH: Sultan of Perak Sultan Nazrin Shah and Raja Permaisuri of Perak Tuanku Zara Salim expressed their condolences to Toh Puan Zaleha Mohd Arshad on the death of her late husband, Tun Arshad Ayub early today.

In his message of condolence, Sultan Nazrin said the former chairman of the Board of Directors of Universiti Malaya was a towering personality and well-known for programmes that involve education for Malay children.

"He had succeeded in uplifting the image of the Mara Institute of Technology (ITM) through his vision and determination to produce Malay and Bumiputera professionals.

"His leadership and personality traits have made him a respected, revered and well-loved figure," said Sultan Nazrin.

Their Highnesses also hoped and prayed that his family members, relatives and friends would be patient and strong as they cope with the loss of their loved one.

"May all his noble services and contributions be accepted and rewarded with blessings in the hereafter and on the Day of Judgement and may Allah bless his soul and place him among the righteous and pious," said Sultan Nazrin.

Arshad died in hospital at 2.06 am today and was reported to have been under treatment at the intensive care unit since last Tuesday over health issues. He was 93.

He was the first director of ITM, now known as UiTM, from 1967 to 1975.
