UMNO Supreme Council member Datuk Seri Nazri Abdul Aziz vows to support Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin as the party deputy president until the upcoming election, reported Malaysiakini.

Nazri who is also Tourism and Culture Minister told the news portal that UMNO should be given the opportunity to allow difference of opinions among its members.

“I will voice my opinion in the next meeting. I will do my best to ensure he is not suspended. As a party which will celebrate its 70th anniversary next year, we should be given the avenue to accept different opinions,” Nazri was quoted by the portal.

The Padang Rengas MP said Muhyiddin should be allowed to maintain his position as the party’s deputy president until the party election.

“Let him serve until the end of his term. Then I will request Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi to contest for the post," he said.

Nazri however admitted that he did not know anything about claims that action would be taken against Muhyiddin soon.

Meanwhile, Malaysian Insider reported that UMNO will suspend Muhyiddin before the party’s supreme council meeting in December.

This is because of Muhyiddin’s continuous attacks against Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak who is also the UMNO president over the 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) controversy and the RM2.6 billion scandal.
