Rescue teams have expanded their search for a fisherman in waters off Pulau Redang, up to five kilometres from where he was reported missing.

Kuala Terengganu deputy police chief Supt Suffian Sulaiman said the operation which entered its third day today, involved more than 30 personnel, including from the Marine Operations Force, the Department of Marine Parks Malaysia, and the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA).

Monday's operation which began at 9am, was also aided by villagers and fishing boat operators to locate the victim from Kampung Baru, Pulau Redang.

"As of now, search and rescue teams have yet to trace the victim, and no indications have been discovered," he told reporters during a press conference, Monday.

The fisherman, Baharuddin Muhamod, 58, reportedly went out fishing by himself at around 9am on Saturday, however, he failed to return home.
