BESTARI JAYA: Tengku Permaisuri of Selangor Tengku Permaisuri Norashikin today launched five varieties of crop seeds in Selangor Fruits Valley (SFV) here.

Tengku Permaisuri Norashikin also named the seeds as Selangor Sweet Melon (SSM), Melon Selangor (MeloSel), Jagung Manis Selangor and GrainSel as well as Selangor Tropical Papaya.

Meanwhile, Selangor Infrastructure, Public Amenities, Agriculture Modernisation and Agro-Industry Committee chairman Izham Hashim said all the seeds were developed by Green World Genetics (GWG) Sdn Bhd which is the only local company that conducts crop seed development studies in the country.

He said the two varieties of corn will be planted in the near future on 121 hectares of land in Bukit Changgang, Kuala Langat and the papaya variety on 6.7 hectares of land in Sungai Air Tawar, Sabak Bernam.

The two types of melon would be planted in several areas in the state, including in 12 greenhouses either using hydroponic or land farming in SFV which was also targeted for sale and used as seeds.

Commenting on the status of chicken in Selangor, Izham said the state government agreed to increase the supply of chickens from 10,000 to 14,000 a day starting tomorrow.
